I was at the show today (sunday) from morning till 6pm. Heard how the wilson audio alexx slowly got run in. At ard 4pm, it suddenly came alive (same recording, same vol as the earlier part of the day). It sounded much much more fluid and bass resolution was very detailed and textured. To me its sound quality has exceeded the previous flagship Alexandria x2 and losing out only in terms of stage size and deep low to the current flagship XLF  (barr the soon to be avail wamm). I like the Alexx a lot

The xaudio system with the g1 just did not sound right to me. Something was missing, the low was not there...

Audioline's big ultra 11 needed a bigger room i guess. It need to be turn up more in terms of volume to get me feeling more engaged. But when the vol was turned up, reflection was coming from all ard and it started to feel messy for me. The reflection from pertruded wall on the left side was making the sound unbalance even at soft volume.Really hoping to hear them in a better room. This pair of speaker to me sounded very transparent yet wholesome(when the vol is higher), very high resolution pair of speakers. Very promising, need a gd room to let it sing

The brand Mcintosh sells by itself, ong radio do not need to do lotsa marketing or price it more agressively. Expert grp are turning their eyes to malaysia and other countires in sea..perhaps sg mkt is too small for them

Sometimes too much a bandwidth will show more things, both gd and bad
Sometimes certain 'roll offs' is just what the sym need to sound the way we want it too

I agree speaker cable design is half science and half art, what is measured as good engineering results may not sound good...even for power amplifier does low distortion really matter? I have heard some amp spec at 0.3% distortion that sound better than those spec at 0.001% distortion...
or change a power cord and it affects the total system sound, this kind of effect cannot totally explain by engineering fact...

It may be, esp after u factor in the number of equipments, room acoustic and listener preference.
Its more abt the implementation than paper talk

Red dawn strength is blue heaven weakness
Blue heaven strength is red dawn weakness

You can see them as tools to balance ur sys sound

On a lighter note, reminds me of a quote from GB Shaw.

Whest audio, the company more famous for their phonostage, has a power cord that is quiet slightly dark and offers very good prat.

If you are looking for better bandwidth/extension at both end, you can go up the ladder

wouldn't the law of weakest link in the chain apply, in that case? End up with worst characteristics of both rather than best of both?

Power cords Interconnects can be mixed as well

Mix blue heaven with red dawn
Blue heaven for high mid
Red dawn for low

with $300 budget, you can try out a used pair of Nordost blue heaven which is within this price range. But Nordost cable tends to raise the mid and high but weaker bass ,may not match to all system. which brand of pre and power amp that you use to drive the dynaudio contours?

Yep,
More often than not, we get confused.
Noise become air and rolled off highs become low noise floor.

The new plixir is working very well for me. I have the pre cond version feeding the power distributor that feeds my source components. Noise floor drops without sacrificing dynamics and i did not detect roll off in the high freq domain.

Wildrain,

You bring up a good point. The tricky part is that sometimes we mistake high frequency noise as air and ambience, while loose bass is perceived to be big and impressive.

Some of the transformer based solutions I've heard blunt dynamics or sound too dark, dead or lifeless. The amount of loading the transformer is handling also plays a big part.

I really like how the  synergistic research galileo le usb cable sound. Very big soundstage, detailed, focused and quiet
It really made digital sound more musical without losing the energy

Yes, i own it before. Had it for a yr plus
Like eric said, the local distributor is very obliging for a home demo. His price most likely will be much lower than in hk. He offer a very very very generous discount over retail

It sounded very good with the ansuz diamond cord. Have not try it with the new ansuz dtc cord though.
The distributor will work well with the ansuz family of power cords. I believe the mainz8 is design to make the sound of the ansuz power cord more balance. At the same time offering a low impdence current delivery and star grounding

Mainz8 D prefers a darker with better high mid power cord feeding it to sound more balance
