I just tried the USB on the DS 713+ NAS to my Oppo-HA-2 dac with DSD64 track and works fine!!!

It doesn't however like playing the same track via DLNA LAN to the PS Audio DS Jr

Personally my experience is where amps are low gain and/or source out is low then there will often be a need to have some gain option in the pre. I have an LDR Lighternote and Lightspeed passive pre's and to be honest, as open as they are you need the right combination of amp gain and source drive levels without having to sacrifice headroom. I seldom use them now as the flexibility of a pre with gain is just so much better. Not all res are created equal of course and some will not cut the mustard.

My fluke is old and probably out of calibration by now and I also have an Agilent multimeter too that does a reasonable job of of LCR too. Not sure how to set the frequency range as I think it's maybe fixed at 1KHz

I did at one time do some speaker cable tests on a test cable set that watchdog did some years ago.

While listening tests are so subjective, test equipment doesn't always tell the whole story either as components will often interact differently when combined

You need to measure with something like an LCR bridge that is more a test lab type of equipment.

I use a Fluke pm6303

A good DSD dac will have effective filters to kill off the noise above 25-30KHz but some might argue that as its there in the process of conversion its still an issue...IMHO I'm not bothered by it. everyone hears differently...

All my main stereo speakers are using active crossovers before the amps, and drivers are direct connected to the amps outputs (no internal crossovers) so each driver has its own amp and speaker cable too. This is by design and the guy who designs this stuff is half of the pair who probably are the most famous speaker crossovers designers Linkwitz/Riley www.linkwitzlab.com

2 of my speakers use 4 amps per speaker and another 2 sets use 2 amps per speaker.

I have Orion v3.3.1, Pluto 2.1, LX521 reference and latest is LXmini with subs to be added (another 2-4 channels)

3. Ronin Cafe. http://ronin.sg

17 Hong Kong Street. Pretty nice food albeit small portions. Great coffee with pretty good consistency. Everytime I've been there, it's the same lovely barista behind the machine.

The old Plain from Craig Place has been absorbed by Ronin.

I was wearing a Two Guns cafe T shirt there one day and some guy walked past me and said nice T...I said yes they are kiwi's running a cafe in LA near Manhattan beach....he said he knows...his best mate is the owner of it...damn small world http://stirrific.com/two-guns-espresso/

HiFi Audio Equipment Discussion / Re: The power conditioning thread
« on: September 12, 2016, 01:27:29 PM »
I have a friend with a recording studio and a lot of the analogue gear is powered via a large step down transformer (8KVA I think) to support the 110V power requirements. I wonder if this affects their perceived audio....He doesn't seem to have any issues with it nor has ever mentioned it. Much of the gear is controlled by MIDI and interfaces with Protools or occasionally Logic

In the digital domain I guess perhaps this has less impact but for the mastering of the tracks audio monitoring also doesn't seem to be an issue.

Maybe will test his ears one day with some power conditioning and see what he thinks...his ear is far more sensitive than mine.

The Analogue rig...
