15) next is put back the black metal plate and screw back the two small screws, then the aluminum metal plate and put  back the 4 screws that hold it

16) finally slide the copper rod back to position and put back the screw and all is done and ready for playing cd again. The process is quite simple and take less than 30 minutes to make the laser len change. The next time if you cd player giving u reading problem, you can try to change it yourself, is not that difficult.

Recently, my Marantz cd player keep have problem reading disc, so decide to replace with new laser len to keep it playing for a few more years. The replacing method is quite easy just need screw driver and careful when disassemble all the parts. Here it goes....

1) Removed the two solder bump from the new CD laser len (this is to prevent static when ship by vendor)

2) It should look like this after dis-solder.

I think for Heimdall the cable resistance will be higher as the wire use will be less...

HiFi Audio Equipment Discussion / Re: Amplifier spec : THD and THD+N
« on: November 24, 2017, 03:14:03 PM »
If just look at the THD % you can not tell the difference how the distortion come about, but if you are able to view in the FFT frequency domain of the harmonic content, it will give u a better idea how good the amp performs. Example base on the two amp has same THD spec, but AMP 1 with second harmonic higher amplitude will sound better than amp2 with third harmonic of higher amplitude.

of course the amp base THD must be low before apply negative feedback, then is good design amp and will sound good.

HiFi Audio Equipment Discussion / Amplifier spec : THD and THD+N
« on: November 24, 2017, 03:11:38 PM »
Often audio amplifier is spec at 20Hz-20Khz, RMS 100W with THD of 0.01% as an example. The THD here in most case is actually THD +N and not the real THD spec. Note the difference in how the THD is calculated.
